Frojax is a Panamanian drummer originally from La Villa de Los Santos, in the Azuero Peninsula, a region known as the "cradle of Panamanian folklore." From an early age, he grew up surrounded by accordions, guitars, and percussion instruments, which forged a deep connection with music. At the age of seven, he moved to the United States and, during his adolescence, immersed himself in Miami's vibrant punk scene in the 1990s. Later, he moved to New York, where he participated in over 150 drum auditions, a key experience in his formation. With more than 28 years of career, Frojax has paved a path in music as a drummer, producer, and composer. His versatility has allowed him to collaborate and tour with prominent artists from various musical genres internationally, adapting to any musical context. He has worked with significant artists such as CJ Ramone (Ramones), Rabanes, Os Almirantes, Los Tímidos, Los Nuevos Bajos, EX-NOVIOS, Factor VIII, 2 Minutos, Lilo Sanchez (Señor Loop), Steve Soto and Dan Root (Adolescents), and Spike Slawson (Me First and The Gimme Gimmes). He has also collaborated with multiple Grammy-winning engineers like Alan Douches (Cro-Mags, Earth Crisis, Misfits), Matias Cougat (Fabulosos Cadillacs, 2 Minutos), Ignacio Molino (Rubén Blades), and Mas Giorgini (Green Day, Screeching Weasel). In 2015, he became the first Panamanian drummer to represent the prestigious Zildjian cymbal brand. In 2007, he managed the visit of Factor VIII to Cuba, obtaining coverage from the popular Panamanian TV show La Cáscara. In 2015, he returned to the island as manager, producer, and drummer with CJ Ramone, becoming the first North American punk artist to visit Cuba and establish diplomatic relations with its government. Frojax organized the production of a tour and a documentary about the visit, as well as managing a successful IndieGoGo campaign that raised $25,000 to fund the trip. In 2019, he returned to Cuba as producer, manager, and tour manager for the Panamanian band Los Rabanes. Frojax lives drumming and musical research with passion, focusing his physical training and style on PMA (Positive Mental Attitude) and an "external locus." When not on tour, he practices five times a week, two hours a day, at 4:45 am in his rehearsal room before taking his children to school and heading to his office. There, he teaches drumming, creates illustrations, jingles, voiceovers, art direction, and legal consultations, being also a licensed lawyer in law and political sciences. He has represented prestigious brands like Converse, Vans, Kenneth Cole, Ecko Unlimited, Perry Ellis, Reebok, Cable and Wireless, and Más Móvil, leading him to star in several TV commercials for these companies as a drummer and brand figure. Since his return to Panama in 2004, he has resided there with his family. Currently, his main activity is as a session drummer, educator, and producer. He plays an essential role as drummer, producer, and musical director in the innovative "vernacular fusion" ensemble Colectivo La Bellaquera (CLB), which challenges the boundaries of traditional Panamanian music and takes it to new and exciting audiovisual territories. Frojax continues to challenge musical horizons and bring Panama's sonic identity to new places. In October 2023, he was a judge for the official Zildjian drummer contest in Panama City. Through his mentorship program "Mentorías de Batería," Frojax not only transmits technical and artistic skills but also shares his passion for music as a tool for cultural connection and mutual understanding, including students on the autism spectrum. His goal is to inspire and guide a new generation of musicians, fostering the development of their creative potential, strengthening their self-confidence, and promoting musical diversity in communities around the world.
